International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) predicts that by 2040, renewable energy sources will provide 40% of global energy production. Especially in the last ten years, the explosion of renewable energies, especially sun and wind, brings about a rapid transformation in the energy sector.

Energy 100 report by Reuters evaluated both traditional and renewable companies based on eight criteria such as innovation, environmental impact, social responsibility, and risk management.
In addition to stable financial instruments, the report includes leading companies that create advanced sustainability programs, develop groundbreaking technologies, and benefit from surrounding communities. It is remarkable that most of the world’s top renewable energy companies, listed in the Energy 100 list, are based in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
- Canadian Solar
Canadian Solar is one of the three largest solar energy companies in the world. The Toronto-based Canadian Solar showed that by developing a highly efficient solar panel, it is more reliable than the current technology and operates in an extensive temperature range.
According to the company’s one of the latest Corporate Sustainability Report, Canadian Solar has reduced carbon emissions per 1 MWh generation by 42% since 2012. Canadian Solar also runs a project to replace the kerosene lamps used in sub-Saharan Africa with solar-powered lights.
The company also built a solar panel for the energy needs of the park, which is home to the Virunga National Park in Rwanda. Also, the park is in a UNESCO World Heritage site and the endangered mountain gorillas.

CropEnergies is Germany’s Mannheim-based Europe’s leading biofuel producer. It produces fuels like bioethanol and biodiesel from renewable plants. It is environmentally friendly that it causes fewer carbon emissions than gasoline and diesel fuels.
CropEnergies, located in the city of Mannheim, obtains fuel from renewable plants. Such biofuels, such as bioethanol from CropEnergies, emit less carbon dioxide than gasoline or diesel fuels. In 2017, CropEnergies increased revenues by 31% thanks to the production and consumption of environmentally friendly fuels.
- GCL-Poly Energy
GCL-Poly Energy is a renewable energy manufacturer based in Hong Kong. GCL-Poly is the leader of the cogeneration industry. This type of power plants can produce heat and electricity at the same time. The company also works on projects related to energy production by burning organic waste.

First Solar is an Arizona based solar panels manufacturer. First Solar is conducting numerous solar energy system installations worldwide. Renewable Energy Group is a biodiesel manufacturer based in Iowa. The company operates a network of refineries in the US and Europe. The fuel produced by the company causes at least 50% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel production.
- Risen Energy
Risen Energy is a China-based photovoltaic solar panel manufacturer. Risen Energy was founded in 1986 and opened to the public in 2010. In 2015, the company donated an off-grid photovoltaic system to a kindergarten in Gansu, China, as a social responsibility project.
