However, floating versions are also designed for offshore applications. The oscillating water column is a type of terminator that enters a room below the water and holds the air up.

The wave motion causes the captured water column to move up and down like a piston and the air to generate power from an aperture connected to the turbine. These devices usually have power ratings of 500 kW to 2 MW depending on the wave climate and device dimensions.
